INLE LAKE, MYANMAR—The VILLA INLE resort & spa, Inle Lake, Myanmar has achieved the internationally recognized Travelife for Hotels & Accommodations Gold Certification.
Travelife, the sustainable tourism certification system, has assessed the VILLA INLE’S performance in responsibly managing its socio–economic and environmental impacts.
VILLA INLE was audited against 163 sustainability criteria, including environmental issues, such as minimizing the amount of energy, waste and water. Social criteria includes actions for employee welfare, working with the local community and businesses and child protection. In addition, hotels and resorts must demonstrate how local traditions and wildlife are protected.
Aung KoKo, General Manager said: “Inle Lake is an extremely fragile eco system in dire need of protection. Our hotel, whose business is fully dependent on the lake, decided to become a Travelife member to develop our sustainability policy with a systematic approach. We are delighted to be the first ever hotel in Myanmar to achieve this certification. With our continued commitment, we will work to spread our message to other hoteliers in order to sustain and protect this fragile ecosystem.”
