MORROW, GA.—TOTO’s two new Maris dual-flush, high-efficiency toilets (HETs) exemplify mid-century Modernism reinterpreted for today with their clean-line design. They join the Maris semi-recessed and undermount lavatories.

The Maris two-piece toilet appeals to design professionals with its clean contemporary lines, recessed-curve tank style, and elongated-front bowl. A push/pull trip lever activates its gravity-fed, dual-flush system—push for a light flush (0.9 gpf); pull for a full flush (1.28 gpf). This Universal Height model is ADA compliant, and its skirted design saves owners’ time by making it very easy to clean.

A common complaint that many dual-flush HET owners have is the need to flush, then brush the bowl to remove streaking after every solid stop. TOTO’s new Dual-Max Cyclone Flushing System uses biomimicry to put an end to “flush ‘n’ brush.” Inspired by cyclones in nature, TOTO engineers harnessed the power of gravity and water to spin away waste. To achieve their vision, they designed a seamless bowl interior with a concave rim to channel high-speed water jets for superior bowl and rim cleansing action. Each flush spins away debris, matter, and bacteria, which reduces the time needed to clean the unit.

SanaGloss Coating Helps Repel Waste, Bacteria

To complete their inventive design, TOTO engineers coated the rim and bowl with SanaGloss, the company’s nano-technology glaze that seals the porcelain with an ionized barrier creating a super slippery, non-porous surface that repels waste and bacteria. When protected by SanaGloss, the water that rinses the bowl and rim as the toilet flushes helps to remove stains, residue, scaling, and lime buildup. Invisible organisms, including bacteria and molds, also are eliminated. Owners won’t need harsh detergents, which are expensive and harmful to the environment.

With the innovations to the floor-mount Maris Dual-Flush HETs’ bowl design in place, TOTO engineers reduced its consumption to enhance indoor water conservation—1.28 gallons per flush (gpf) for solid waste and 0.9 gpf for liquid. Averaging solid and liquid stops over the course of a day, the average flush for this HET is 1.0 gpf.

The Maris wall-hung toilet’s hidden In-Wall Tank System saves up to nine inches of room space, making it ideal for a powder room or small bath. This versatile unit may be mounted at standard or Universal Height. Its vitreous china bowl is coated with SanaGloss, which prevents the build-up of matter and bacteria, ensuring that the bowl is thoroughly cleaned with each flush. Its skirted bowl and wall-hung design make cleaning easy.
