PORTLAND, ORE.—The Heathman Hotel in Portland, a property with a long history of environmental commitments, announces the appointment of Steven Hurst as General Manager. As General Manager, Hurst will oversee all property operations, sales and executive functions as well as focus on a post-sale re-imaging for the hotel, which is one of the oldest and most respected luxury hotels in the city.

Hurst started his career in the hotel business at Pebble Beach Resorts. There, he enjoyed seven years of career advancement, starting as Clubhouse Manager, at The Beach and Tennis Club, Monterey Peninsula’s premier private social and recreational club with a rich history spanning more than 90 years (much like The Heathman). After four years in this position, he took on the role of Assistant General Manager of Casa Palmero, Pebble Beach Resort’s most exclusive hotel, achieving a Zagat Survey Rating of 7th Small Hotel and Conde Nast readers’ poll ranking of 12th Hotel in the United States. It was there that he honed his skills and leadership in the luxury hotel market, striving to create the best possible guest experience, providing seamless service and world-class amenities.

After three years at Casa Palmero, Hurst moved to Oregon to take on the position of Resort Manager at Sunriver Resort, the Northwest’s only AAA Four Diamond resort. There, he managed all of the operations including sales and marketing, five dining outlets, more than 600 keys, retail, a full-service spa, four golf courses and meeting space. Hurst most recently spent the last six years as Assistant General Manager at The Allison Inn & Spa, running the day-to-day operations of rooms, fine dining, events, spa, engineering and sales. Under his guidance, the luxury resort earned top rankings with various organizations and magazines, including Travel + Leisure, which named The Allison #1 Wine Country Hotel and #1 Spa in the U.S. He also played a pivotal role on the opening team of the award-winning Oregon wine country resort, which earned the prestigious LEED Gold Certification less than one year after opening.

The Heathman Hotel is owned by LaSalle Hotel Properties and managed by JRK Hotel Group.
