I am excited to announce the publication of the second annual Green Lodging Trends Report—the result of a collaboration between Greenview and Green Lodging News. The second annual report details the results of the Green Lodging Trends Report Survey and is available at no cost by clicking here. Be sure to read this 56-page report and share it with your colleagues!

The report is based on data from 2,093 hotels in 46 countries and provides industry trends on topics ranging from energy management to communication to—for the first time in its own category—Health & Wellness. The report includes results of 110 best practices in 12 categories.

Sponsors this year include Cass Information Systems, Inc., reCollect2 and ClearWater Tech. Green Lodging Trends Report 2017 Supporters include the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Assn., Avendra, Boston Green Tourism, Green Seal, Brighton Management, Horwath HTL—Asia Pacific, Green Key, Travelife, Green Key Global and GreenOtels.

A big thank you to our sponsors, supporters and all of those who took the time to complete this year’s survey. The report would not have been possible without you. If you would like to learn about 2018 sponsorship and support opportunities, contact me at (813) 510-3868, or by e-mail at editor@greenlodgingnews.com.

Quantitative, Qualitative Information

Within the data collected from the survey there is a wealth of information—much of it quantitative but we also collected a lot of qualitative information as well. An example of a quantitative question: “What percentage of guestroom shower-head fixtures are low-flow?” The qualitative information came from open-ended questions such as: “Provide an example of a program you launched in the last year to promote employee and/or guest wellness?” It was impossible to include all of our findings in the report. If you would like to dig down into a particular topic area, contact me or Grace Kang, Managing Partner, Greenview, at grace@greenview.sg.

In addition to publishing Green Lodging Trends Report 2017, a compare report was prepared for each survey participant, serving as a yardstick to understand the status of each specific practice within the general participant universe. Participating hotel companies also received a portfolio report and snapshot across properties.

I don’t want to give away the results of the survey here. Take a look at the report yourself and get back to me with your thoughts. The survey is an ever evolving document. If you have suggestions for additions or changes, let me know. I hope you enjoy our second annual survey.

Green Lodging News Adds Solar America Solutions Case Study to Website

Green Lodging News has added a Solar America Solutions case study to its website. The case study details the installation of a 20-panel SunQuest 250 Solar Thermal System at the 439-room Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead. The challenge was to reduce the annual cost of heating water for guestroom use, while providing an acceptable equipment payback period. The hotel was spending approximately $43,000 per year to heat water for guestroom showers. The new SunQuest 250 system pre-heats the water entering the three-boiler array in the 26th story mechanical room to 140°. The result has been a more than 50 percent reduction in guestroom DHW natural gas costs with a complete equipment payback in 3.9 years. These results are based on actual gas consumption figures provided by the Grand Hyatt Atlanta. To access the case study, click here. How to Search on Our Website

Similar to other search engines you find online, a search using one word will produce articles with that word included. If you would like to search for something that is more than one word long—ozone laundry, for example—you will need to put quotation marks around the words or phrase. Ozone laundry would then be “ozone laundry” in the search.

Who is Your Sustainability Champion?

Green Lodging News is always looking to profile sustainability champions in our Personnel Profile section. If you would like to nominate someone for this section of Green Lodging News, contact me at (813) 510-3868, or by e-mail at editor@greenlodgingnews.com.
