RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO—Sandos Caracol Eco Resort & Spa and the Pelopidas Foundation, in association with The Climate Institute, has become the first resort in the world to offer guests the Magic Planet, an exclusive educational tool developed by the National Oceanographic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to teach guests the impact that our daily activities have on the land, ocean and atmosphere.

The Magic Planet device provides an interactive multimedia platform that can run simulations, display live streaming media from any region of the world and offer real-time games which engage participants in a friendly environment. Using a touch screen module, guests can see climate conditions, carbon pollution, population density and other features for any given point within the globe. Currently, the Magic Planet is a key exhibit in more than 100 museums, planetariums, science centers and visitor centers worldwide.

“In order to teach guests the importance of protecting our environment, we must encourage them to learn more about the dynamic environment in which we live,” said Jacques De Paep, director of sales and marketing for Sandos Hotels & Resorts. “The Magic Planet makes this learning process enjoyable for our young guests, and we hope that we can learn together to make positive contributions to society and make our planet more sustainable for future generations.”

Many Eco-educational Activities Offered

Sandos Caracol Eco Resort & Spa is committed to promoting ecological awareness and offers this educational tool at no additional cost to guests. In addition, other complimentary eco-educational activities include an Eco Tour, Snorkel Tour and Eco Workshops in the Kids Club. Guests can enjoy a complimentary Eco Tour which takes them on an interwoven path throughout the property where they discover nature areas within the eco resort. Guides help participants observe the extraordinary details that the Mayan jungle holds including treasures such as 16 natural cenotes (underwater caves), indigenous animals and exotic fauna.

Guests can sign up for one of two complimentary Snorkel Tours held daily where they can explore the resort’s largest on-property cenote and discover three unique caves below the surface that connect to other cenotes throughout the resort. Each cenote is filled with crystal-clear turquoise waters and is home to a few species of small fish.

Children enrolled in the Kids Club will participate in a variety of Eco Workshops to learn more about the wildlife and fauna on the property.
