DALLAS—An interactive dashboard that integrates in-room electronic systems and status including occupancy, locks, safes, lighting, energy management and more, allows hotel properties to manage subsystems remotely over the hotel LAN or Web-based connection. This software-based system, Integrated Room Control Dashboard, is an integral part of Orion by VingCard Elsafe, the new intelligent energy management solution from VingCard Elsafe.

The energy management system was designed to automatically control temperature settings as guests travel in and out of their rooms, thereby reducing energy costs while ensuring guest comfort. As it integrates with a hotel’s wireless online locks, safes, lights and other networked subsystems, Orion by VingCard Elsafe provides operators with reporting, tracking, status, control and data access through the Integrated Room Control Dashboard.

Featuring engaging graphics designed by award-winning Patti Lorin Design and precise programming from global high-tech consultancy firm Cybercom, the Integrated Room Control Dashboard makes it easy to use for non-technical personnel, front desk staff, engineers, management, and virtually anyone associated with hotel operations. The dashboard provides a centralized, integrated reporting structure and versatile capabilities to meet customer demands, including the ability to customize and brand the dashboard for each property. Included is guest-facing content to help promote the hotel’s green initiatives. This content can include green tips, weather RSS feeds, energy saved, welcome messages and any other marketing content the hotel wishes to promote. This “digital signage” content can easily be branded and customized by the hotel and distributed over the in-room video system or to other dedicated displays.

For hotels with loyalty card programs, room setting preferences can be integrated into the system to enhance guest comfort through profile data and previous stay usage. The dashboard features global capability through WPF/Microsoft Silverlight language modules to enable hotels to compare current performance with past results and has the ability to enable hotels to estimate trends and adjust operations accordingly.

Important Step in Saving Energy

“No one else in the industry offers a comprehensive dashboard that integrates all the technologies found in Orion by VingCard Elsafe,” said Rune Venas, president of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality in North America. “Through the dashboard, hotel operators have the ability to enhance current and future guest experiences like never before. With its innovative layout, design and future-forward capabilities, the Integrated Room Control Dashboard is an important step in helping hoteliers better manage the properties, offer improved guest services, generate additional revenue and save energy.”

While operating in conjunction with VISIONLINE, VingCard’s wireless RF-online electronic locking system, Orion by VingCard Elsafe communicates with other in-room systems such as locks, safes, lights and the room’s thermostat, offering a complete and smooth integration of all of these separate systems on the same online platform. The system provides remote status to hoteliers through the dashboard for HVAC runtime, room occupancy, thermostat devices, safes and lights. It provides event notifications such as maintenance alarms, excessive runtime, extended door open, low battery warnings and more to staff. Orion also offers the option to remotely change and preset the room temperature prior to guest arrival. Additionally, the dashboard offers hoteliers access to preventative maintenance schedules, occupancy trends and reports, giving real-time feedback to staff on the entire property.

All activity is secured by the fact that Orion operates on the ZigBee Standard ISO 802.15.4 high-security open platform—the only wireless, highly secured and open standards-based platform to address the unique needs of low power monitoring and access-control network applications.

“Using Orion by VingCard Elsafe and VISIONLINE on the same wireless platform, hoteliers gain the advantages of all the integration in reporting, PMS connectivity, plus the convenience of remote management from a central location for locks, safes and temperature due to the same RF-online network installation,” said Venas. “This combination offers the most convenient way for hoteliers to ensure guest comfort, save energy, and contribute to green initiatives.”
