SEATTLE—Pan Pacific Hotel Seattle has been awarded Green Globe certification for the third consecutive year.

“Pan Pacific Seattle accomplishes the right balance between service to guests, service to environmental stewardship and service to community,” said K. Denaye Hinds, Director of Sustainability for OBM International and Green Globe’s auditor of Pan Pacific. “Through the consistency of their Green Team and support from management, the hotel marries service and sustainability effortlessly.”

In 2012, Pan Pacific was the first boutique hotel in the United States to receive Green Globe certification. Over the last two years, the hotel has improved its Green Globe certification score by 7 percent through its continued efforts to lower the property’s environmental impact. These efforts include paperless check-in and out, biodegradable keycards and the use of compact fluorescent lighting throughout all public spaces and guestrooms. A unique effort this past year was the hotel’s purchase of renewable energy credits (RECs) from OneEnergy Renewables for all of the staff’s corporate travel, resulting in the offset of 22 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

Pan Pacific’s sustainable practices go hand-in-hand with its efforts in social responsibility. Over the last five years, the hotel has raised more than $44,000 for various local charitable organizations, collected or donated nearly 27,000 pounds of food and sanitized around 5,700 pounds of partially consumed soap for Clean The World relief efforts. Additionally, the hotel’s staff has volunteered more than 900 hours of community service, including South Lake Union neighborhood cleanups and graffiti paint-outs, and regularly partners with One Day’s Wages to help raise funds to fight global poverty.
