DAHLONEGA, GA.—Breakthrough technology designed to completely eliminate water bourne bacteria legionella, tested by a research chemist at the Centre Des Technologies De L’Eau (CTE) in Montreal, is a proven strategy to save lives and possibly prevent future disease outbreaks. In July 2015, a deadly outbreak of Legionella in New York City claimed 12 lives. Legionella outbreaks have also been recently reported in Illinois, Detroit, Orlando, San Francisco, Maryland, Georgia, Spain, England and Australia.

The lifesaving technology manufactured by Ozomax, Inc., Canada was tested by a research chemist at the CTE in accordance with EPA general standards. Dr. Abdelaziz Gherrou Ph.D., the principal researcher found the OzoPen could completely eliminate the surrogate for Legionella bacteria using MS-2 pathogens bacteriophage, twice as resistive as Legionella in less than 5 minutes at very low doses of mixed oxidants generated by the OzoPen system. The laboratory used a common surrogate for Legionella, since experimenting with the Legionella requires an extremely restrictive protocol. Most authorities, such as the EPA, recommend the surrogate pathogen for Legionella testing.

The OzoPen system changes how Legionnaires’ Disease outbreaks can be treated and now offers a preventative strategy by destroying the bacteria safely while reducing water use and chemical byproducts. The OzoPen system reduces water use by up to 75 percent when compared to alternative chemical treatment systems. In addition, the OzoPen system can reduce overall energy consumption by 10 to 20 percent by eliminating biofilm on surfaces. Biofilm is the “glue” that allows scaling buildup on cooling surfaces, and reduces heat transfer while increasing energy costs. Biofilm is also common in water distribution systems, especially in summer.

A Patented Green Technology

The OzoPen is a patented green technology requiring no harmful chemicals, using standard house voltage, and minimal energy. The OzoPen technology safely produces disinfecting oxidants in the water—from the water.  By destroying their DNA, the OzoPen system produces no harmful disinfection byproducts after killing the pathogens. Other commonly used disinfectants such as Chlorine and Chlorine Dioxide create harmful byproducts and often result in mutating the pathogens, making them more difficult to eliminate.

Bruce Adams, former Water Conservation Manager at the South Florida Water Management District in South Florida, and a principal of OzoMax USA stated, “We are excited to receive this testing validation as we implement this breakthrough technology in high risk areas throughout the U.S.”

OzoMaxUSA offers its technology through provision of water treatment services, requiring no upfront capital costs. The company guarantees complete control of pathogens, including Legionella bacteria, to all government and industry standards.
