OTTAWA, ON.—The New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association (NYSHTA) has announced that it will adopt the Green Key Eco-Rating Program as its official sustainable certification program for the state’s lodging industry. The selection of Green Key Global as its certification partner complements a drive by the association to instill a culture of sustainability amongst its lodging members.
This partnership will see Green Key Global working with NYSHTA to educate its members on the variety of benefits that third-party verification brings to the table. In addition to valuable resources such as toolkits, templates, and detailed performance reports, Green Key also provides certified members with a variety of marketing benefits. Green Key Global will also promote their rating via its Listing Affiliate Network (AAA, Travelocity and motels.com to name a few), the Green Key Global website and social media channels. Green Key Global will also contribute to the association’s Green Resource Center.
“As the state’s lodging association, we know how important it is to have a partnership with an internationally recognized sustainability program like Green Key Global,” said Mark Dorr, V.P. of Operations and Member Relations for NYSHTA. “The hotel industry has been at the forefront of the eco-friendly movement, and to be able to have hotels recognized with an official designation for their positive sustainability efforts is an important part of showing the traveler that the industry is doing its part to protect the environment.”
Program Covers Many Different Operational Areas
The Green Key Eco-Rating Program focuses on the main operational areas within a facility including an emphasis on policies, procedures and training. Within those operational categories attention is placed on a number of key areas related to sustainability including energy, waste and water management, community involvement, land use, indoor air quality and more. There are currently 28 New York State lodging facilities certified through the Green Key Eco-Rating Program.

Green Key Global will be in attendance at the upcoming NYSHTA-sponsored International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show (IHMRS) in New York, November 9 to 11. As part of the event’s Green Division, Green Key Global will be exhibiting in the Green Pavilion at Booth No. 2051. Steve Ball, Green Key Global’s Director of Business Development, will appear as a panelist on November 10 in The Power of Green Certification session.
