Corporate Responsibility Magazine just announced its list of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens. This is the 18th year for the list. To appear on the list a company must first appear among the Russell 1000. The Russell 1000 is the list of the 1,000 largest U.S. public companies. For each company, 260 data points of publicly available disclosure and performance measurements were considered. Each company was ranked in seven categories: environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, corporate governance, financial performance, and philanthropy and community support. There were only three lodging companies that made this year’s top 100 list: Marriott International, Wyndham Worldwide Corp. and Walt Disney Co. Of course Walt Disney Co. is much more than a lodging company but I will include them here.

According to the list, Marriott ranked 91 for environment, 102 for climate change, 83 for human rights, 199 for employee relations, 22 for corporate governance, 342 for philanthropy, and 60 for financial performance.

Wyndham ranked 103 for environment, 72 for climate change, 83 for human rights, 184 for employee relations, 256 for corporate governance, 107 for philanthropy, and 386 for financial performance.

Walt Disney Co. ranked 161 for environment, 104 for climate change, 25 for human rights, 67 for employee relations, 127 for corporate governance, 95 for philanthropy, and 174 for financial performance.

Additional information on each company’s activities can be found on their websites and in their sustainability reports, company 10-Ks and other documents.

Aside from the lodging companies on the list, the No. 1 company overall is Hasbro, Inc., followed by Intel Corp. and Microsoft Corp. There are many suppliers to the lodging industry on the list.
