Toshiba Introduces New, More Powerful LED Lamps

HOUSTON—Toshiba International Corp. announced that it is introducing new PAR38 and MR16 lamps that offer higher lumen output while still providing energy savings when compared to similar lumen halogen bulbs. Toshiba’s new PAR38 1100 Series is a direct replacement for 90 to 110W halogen lamps, offers outputs of up to 1,170 lumens and uses up to 75 percent less energy than halogens. Robertson Offering New Line of Instant Start T8 Ballasts

BLUE ISLAND, ILL.—Robertson now offers a line of Instant Start T8 ballasts that comply with and are listed under the UL Type CC requirements. The fundamental Type CC requirement prescribes that the ballast not sustain an arc at the lamp socket if the connection to the lamp pin is loose or intermittent. Hilton Worldwide Commits to South Africa Sustainability Drive

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA—In a move designed to further enhance its sustainability program, Hilton Worldwide has launched a major environmental initiative at its three hotels in South Africa. More than 17,000 energy saving lights, including new replacement LED globes, are being introduced at Hilton Sandton, Hilton Durban and Hilton Cape Town, with considerable economic and environmental benefits. Boston Hoteliers Find it Difficult to Say ‘No’ to NSTAR Program

BOSTON—Through a program that includes electric and gas utility NSTAR and electrical supplies distributor Munro Distributing Company, Inc., Boston area hotels are benefiting from LED lamps at no cost to them. The program began this fall and bulbs must be installed by the end of 2011. According to Jeffrey Pollock, manager energy efficient marketing for NSTAR, the LED program most likely will be continued in 2012.NSTAR customers are funding the program.
