NEW DELHI—ITC Welcomgroup turned to the experts at Carrier Airconditioning & Refrigeration Ltd. (Carrier India) to provide an energy efficient cooling solution for the ITC Hotel Royal Gardenia, Bengaluru, which was recently awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Council, making it the world’s largest and Asia’s first LEED Platinum rated green hotel, according to ITC. Carrier India is a subsidiary of Carrier Corp., which is a unit of United Technologies Corp.

In alignment with LEED principles, the ITC Royal Gardenia is focused on delivering “Responsible Luxury.” According to its philosophy of “Forward to Green, Back to Nature,” the ITC Royal Gardenia employs forward-looking environmentally sustainable practices such as energy efficient operations, zero solid waste management, and green banqueting, while merging the physical aspects of the hotel with nature.

To optimize energy consumption, ITC Royal Gardenia required the most efficient chiller system that would meet the demands of the local climate and the challenging energy needs of a hotel. The product selected was Carrier’s non-ozone depleting Evergreen 23XRV screw chiller that achieves 40 percent more energy savings than the U.S. industry standard. Carrier’s experts partnered with the in-house technical team of the Royal Gardenia to provide a solution that would ultimately meet and exceed the customer’s requirements and set new benchmarks in efficiency for the hospitality and the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning industries.

“We had an ambitious aim and strict operating benchmarks,” said Alwyn Noronha, executive vice president—projects, ITC Ltd., Hotels Division. “To our satisfaction, Carrier helped us achieve both. Technological superiority, expert execution and commitment are what come seamlessly from the inventors of modern air-conditioning. Together we offer responsible luxury to our esteemed guests.”

“We are proud to offer world-leading sustainable solutions to the ITC Royal Gardenia, which will stand as a global landmark in sustainability,” said John Mandyck, Carrier’s vice president for Sustainability & Environmental Strategies. “We commend ITC for its vision and commitment to the environment.”
