DENHAM, U.K.—InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, recently announced a record-breaking week of fundraising for the IHG Foundation.

During September’s IHG Foundation Week, more than 100,000 IHG colleagues came together to raise over $350,000 for the IHG Foundation, by pledging their participation in a wide range of awareness and fundraising activities. A record-breaking 1 million pledges were made across hotels and corporate offices in nearly 80 countries. This represented more than one pledge per second across nine days of activity and included 200,000 hours of volunteering.

Kate Gibson, Vice President Corporate Responsibility, IHG, commented: “We are extremely proud of the passion and commitment our people have shown in support of the IHG Foundation, which embodies the positive impact it is making in local communities around the world. This year’s IHG Foundation Week will make a huge difference in helping the charity to expand on the important work it is already doing to make the world a more hospitable place, by teaching people the skills they need to find work and to help families rebuild their lives in times of disaster.”

The IHG Foundation was launched as an independent charity in February 2016 and has since made more than 60 grants to 35 organizations. Most recently, it provided support to the American Red Cross and British Red Cross, following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and to the Mexican Red Cross for vital on-the-ground assistance after a devastating earthquake. It also assisted relief efforts in Puerto Rico through an existing grant to the American Red Cross’ Disaster Responder Program, and in September provided support following the earthquake in China’s Sichuan Province and widespread flooding in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

During IHG Foundation Week, IHG colleagues were encouraged to volunteer their time and take part in as many different fundraising activities as they could outside of their daily routines.
