WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its lists of the top organizations within the Green Power Partnership using the most renewable electricity. In the Top 50 there is just one lodging company represented—Hilton Worldwide at No. 14. Ninety-four percent of the electricity purchased annually by Hilton is green power (315,000,000 kWh). Hilton’s green power resources include small-hydro and wind.

Intel Corp. continues to hold the first spot on the list as the largest single user of green power and has increased its green power usage by more than 300 million kWh annually. With this increase, Intel Corporation now uses more than 3.1 billion kWh of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 100 percent of the organization’s electricity use, up from 89 percent.

Following Intel Corporation on the National Top 50 List are Kohl’s Department Stores, Microsoft Corp., Whole Foods Market, and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., respectively. Through their use of green power, these top five organizations are avoiding carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions equal to those created by the electricity use of nearly 630,000 average American homes each year. In addition, Cisco Systems, Inc. broke into the top 10 on the National Top 50 List, moving up from No. 17 to No. 9 by increasing its green power use by more than 190 million kWh annually.
