You are most likely reading this column while I am attending HX: The Hotel Experience in New York City. The event, what was once the International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show (IHMRS), is taking place from November 8 to 10 and is adjacent to Boutique Design New York (BDNY) which is being held November 8 to 9. Both events are at the green roofed Javits Center. I am writing this column in advance of the show and am very excited to see how different HX will be from IHMRS. The owners of the event have invested a lot in revitalizing the show. I will be moderating three green sessions on the following topics: “The Numbers Behind the Trends—Gauging Traveler/Hotelier Reaction to the Greening of Lodging,” “C-Level Strategy—What’s Driving Lodging’s Leading Companies to Invest in Sustainability,” and “You Want Me to Do What?…in the Laundry?” Click here for the complete educational session schedule. There are also several green sessions at BDNY. Click here for details.

I will be reporting on HX and BDNY in the coming week. The rosters of exhibitors at both shows include many companies with products with sustainable aspects—everything from car charging stations to vending machines with healthy snacks to natural solutions to bedbug infestations. I have been attending the New York show almost every year since 1989 and have seen a lot of changes—one being the growing presence of exhibitors dedicated to helping you reduce waste, save energy and water, and provide a much healthier experience for your guests. The show is also a great networking place and my schedule is already packed with not only exhibitors but also meetings with leaders in sustainability.

HX and BDNY come just about one week prior to the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo. This year’s event is taking place at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Greenbuild always has an incredible lineup of speakers and the exhibitor list includes companies offering everything from HVAC systems to insulation to high-efficiency toilets. More than 550 exhibitors will be at this year’s Greenbuild. Be sure to attend if you can.

This year was the first one in a while without a green lodging conference of one sort or another. Lodging magazine has been quiet about reviving its conference but details will be announced within the next 10 days about the next Mid-Atlantic Green Hospitality Conference at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, Del. It will be held March 14 to 15. I have already agreed to moderate a panel discussion there. Be sure to continue to visit Green Lodging News for updates on this event.

Of course 2016 will have its usual slate of industry events such as HD Expo, the National Restaurant Association Show, etc. Visit our Events section for links to these events. And, if you have an event you believe should be promoted on our site, contact me at editor@greenlodgingnews.com, or by phone at (813) 510-3868.

Experts may include consultants, architects, designers, suppliers and those who own or operate green lodging establishments. Columns may be articles that take a stance on a particular subject or be strictly educational in nature. Columnists benefit by having their photo included along with a one paragraph description of their company. Interested in writing a column?
