LOS ANGELES—Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana in the Caribbean was recently certified by Green Globe in recognition of the hotel’s commitment to maintaining sustainable practices.

Frank Maduro, Vice President of Marketing for All Inclusive Collection said, “The continuing success of the Green Globe Certification, as the platform for sustainability performance within the travel and tourism industry, underlines how important sustainability and responsible business has become both globally and for the All Inclusive Collection. All of our hotels pledge themselves in their operations to strive for positive environmental change. We are thrilled about the recent certification of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana and look forward to paving the way for a more sustainable future of tourism.”

The hotel has implemented procedures and changes to further develop sustainability standards in accordance with Green Globe objectives. A newly formed Green Team led by department heads holds weekly meetings in order to achieve a higher compliance in relation to new standards that have been set.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana has its own environmental and social sustainability policy which aims to adhere to environmental legislation in the Dominican Republic through following sustainable objectives such as reducing the impact its operations have on the environment, conserving energy, reducing water consumption, recycling waste and involving employees and guests in its environmental efforts.

On-site Wastewater Treatment Plant

To reduce water consumption, an on-site wastewater treatment plant is utilized for watering gardens and golf courses where the demand for water usage is high. The plant not only conserves water but also prevents soil contamination. To further protect the environment, initiatives to protect native flora and fauna such as ecosystem restoration, rescuing endangered wildlife and beach cleanups are also targeted.

The hotel and casino’s recycling output has increased significantly by approximately 25 percent through the introduction of strategies that encourage staff and guests to become involved in effective waste management. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana provides environmental education for staff through courses in sustainability and induction programs. Guests are encouraged to place waste in segregated sorting bins that are located throughout the property.

As part of their corporate and social responsibilities Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana supports philanthropic projects in the community such as the “Imagine There’s No Hunger” campaign. This year the project raised 47,964 pounds in non-perishable food items that were donated to children in the Dominican Republic and their families. The hotel & casino also supports Save the Planet activities throughout the year including Earth Hour in March, and PinkTober which raises funds to support breast cancer awareness.
