WASHINGON, D.C.—Greenview and Twirl Management recently launched the first annual Green Venue Survey and Report, a collaborative effort, supported by Freeman, to collect information and generate a freely available industry report that captures the state of convention center greening and acts as an informed talking piece to stimulate constructive discussion.

The report, slated for publication in early 2014, will objectively bring venue sustainability challenges, solutions and success stories to the forefront. In addition to sharing findings related to venue infrastructure, practices and performance, the report is being created with the aim to spur adoption of industry best practices.

“We have seen so many great initiatives across different venues,” said Eric Ricaurte, founder of Greenview. “We have also witnessed some major gaps. The Green Venue Report aims to increase awareness and stimulate competition by providing venues with a benchmark, and planners with a sense of what they can and should expect from venues for sustainable events.”

Deadline Approaching for Responses

The value of the report will be driven by the number of participating convention centers and the thoroughness and accuracy of their responses. Greenview and Twirl Management are encouraging centers to submit survey responses online by October 13, 2013.

“Convention centers provide value to this report by supplying critical data required to understand the state of our industry,” said Cara Unterkofler, Director of Sustainable Event Programs at Greenview. “In return, we want to provide value by capturing and memorializing best practices that can act as a roadmap for centers. Each participating venue will receive a confidential benchmarking report so that they can see where they stand among their peers.”

Greenview and Twirl Management will present the impetus of this project and preliminary findings at the upcoming IMEX 2013 convention in Las Vegas.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for the industry to take the conversation around convention center greening to the next level and we hope this report and subsequent presentations will create a platform for constructive discussions among convention centers, suppliers and customers,” said Johanna Walsh, co-founder of Twirl Management. “We look forward to being a part of that conversation and natural collaboration for change.”
