I will be attending the Lodging Green + Sustainability Conference in Dallas from October 1 to 3. Be sure to watch for coverage on the Green Lodging News website. The first-year event will be held at the LEED Gold Omni Dallas Hotel and will kick off with a tour of the property that includes green features ranging from a 25,000-gallon rainwater cistern to a keycard-based guestroom energy management system. The conference will feature Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as the keynote speaker and two full days of educational sessions, trade show exhibits and networking opportunities.

If you are going to be in the Dallas area, the organizers of the Lodging Green + Sustainability Conference are currently offering free entry into the Exhibit Hall during the event as well as the keynote address and welcome reception on Tuesday, October 1. To register, send your name, title, company, e-mail and phone number to yjao@lodgingmagazine.com.

I will be moderating two sessions at the conference: one entitled, “Sustainable Success Stories,” and another one on “Marketing Sustainability to Guests.” Be sure to visit the conference website for details.

Two weeks following the Dallas event, the Sustainable Hotel & Resort 2013 Conference will be held at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek in Orlando, Fla. The agenda for the event has been coming together in recent weeks. Highlights include time with exhibitors and educational sessions focused on “Designing for Sustainability,” “Developing a Sustainable Supply Chain,” “Creating a Culture of Sustainability in Resort Operations,” and much more. Be sure to check out the conference website.

IHMRS & Hospitality Green

As highlighted previously on Green Lodging News, for the first time the International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show (IHMRS) will feature a green section on the trade show floor—Hospitality Green. It will be presented in partnership with Green Lodging News. In addition to Hospitality Green, five green panel discussions (all moderated by myself) will be presented in the Green Room in the Hospitality Green area. Click here for more information on those panel discussions.

This year’s IHMRS, taking place November 10 to 12 at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, co-located with the 4th annual Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade fair, will collectively present nearly 1,100 hospitality industry suppliers and attract nearly 23,000 trade attendees. Those attending either or both shows can receive a complimentary registration by mentioning code GLN2013 when registering online.

Wrapping up the series of green events this year will be the Green Hospitality Conference & Tradeshow on December 17 to 18 at The Peabody Orlando in Orlando, Fla. Organizations including the American Green Lodging and Hospitality Assn., Florida Caribbean Green Meeting Industry Council, NEWH Green Voice and the University of Florida TREEO Center are planning and participating in the event. The agenda will include a keynote presentation by Abby Gulden, Sustainability Coordinator at the Orange County Convention Center, and three session tracks (green meetings, green lodging, NEWH). Session highlights include: “Case Study of a Green Event,” “Trends in Sustainable Energy Reduction,” and “Making Renovations More Sustainable While Controlling Costs.”

It is exciting to see so much conference and trade show activity focused on “green.” Be sure to support these events as best as you can. I will look forward to seeing some of you “on the road” this fall.
