FREEPORT, MAINE—The ninth annual Hospitality for Habitat fundraiser sponsored by the Maine Innkeepers Assn. (MEIA) for Habitat for Humanity was the most successful to date, announced Greg Dugal, MEIA executive director. Dugal presented Nicole Bosarge of Greater Portland Habitat for Humanity with a $17,000 check, representing the proceeds from this year’s fundraiser to be divided among the Maine chapters of the organization, to help build homes for deserving Maine families.

Hospitality for Habitat is a spring program which allows guests to stay at participating Maine Innkeepers’ properties for 50 percent off the regular room rate in exchange for a $35 dollar donation check written out to Habitat for Humanity. The Maine Innkeepers Assn. has collected close to $100,000 in donation checks over the program’s nine year history, to help build homes all over the state.

“I am delighted that once again innkeepers and their guests have been so generous in their support for this fundraising program,” said Dugal. “I have great hopes that next year, in our tenth anniversary for Hospitality for Habitat, we will hit the $20,000 mark in donations for this great cause.”

Gail Philips, general manager of Village by the Sea in Wells and her staff raised more than $4,000, followed by the Beachmere Inn in Ogunquit at $2,475 and the Newcastle Inn with $1,245 and the Camden Riverhouse with $1,220.

“Every donation is important,” said Dugal. “Of note this year, first time participant, Dunes on the Waterfront in Ogunquit raised $1,075, while The Flagship Inn in Boothbay Harbor built and sold birdhouses and the Hawthorn Inn in Camden had a raffle, adding a little creativity to the program.”
