Get out your calendars. It is going to be a busy green lodging conference and trade show season beginning in October. As reported here previously, Lodging Magazine, in collaboration with EcoGreenHotel (Green Lodging News is a sponsor), is wrapping up the planning for its first Lodging Green + Sustainability Conference + Expo. It will be held from October 1 to 3 at the LEED Gold certified Omni Dallas Hotel. Details are available on the conference website but you should know that the conference organizers have secured the participation of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as the keynote speaker. Many other green lodging leaders you have come to know here on Green Lodging News will also be moderators, speakers or panelists. I will be moderating two sessions.

While Kennedy’s speech will highlight the first day of the event (along with a tour of the Omni Dallas), the second and third days will be filled with educational and networking opportunities and chances to visit with green suppliers. Session tracks will be geared toward: owners and investors; general managers, executive housekeepers, and other managers; and those in facilities management and engineering.

The Sustainable Hotel & Resort Conference will be held October 15 to 16 at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort—Bonnet Creek. According to the event’s organizers—the Sustainable Resort Institute—the “conference will bring together hotel/resort operators, energy and water management consultants, sustainable solution providers, and certifying organizations to discuss trends, products, and solutions to help hotels and resorts recognize that implementing sustainable solutions is good: good for the environment and good for business.” The agenda for the event is still being put together. Watch the Institute’s website for details.

IHMRS: Greener Than Ever

Green Lodging News is working together with ST Media Group International, with the support of the Sustainable Hospitality Committee of the Hotel Association of New York City, to plan five green-focused panel discussions at the International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show (IHMRS). This event will take place November 9 to 12 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City. Unique to these sessions this year is their location—on the trade show floor itself. Sessions will focus on topics ranging from best practices in energy efficiency to green certification. A complete sessions schedule will be available soon.

Another exciting addition to the Show this year is a new pavilion on the Show floor called HOSPITALITY GREEN. The pavilion, presented in partnership with Green Lodging News, will bring together the latest energy-saving and footprint-reducing innovations together in one inspiring space. From amenities and foodservice equipment to HVAC, recycling and cleaning and maintenance, HOSPITALITY GREEN promises to have broad, cross-category appeal. Green Lodging News has been a strong supporter of IHMRS for many years and I am very excited to play such an important role in planning this year’s event.

Finally, the largest green building conference and expo in the United States, Greenbuild, will be held November 18 to 23 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. On November 20, Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will officially kick off Greenbuild as the opening plenary keynote speaker.
