TARRYTOWN, N.Y.—More than 75 staff, associates, and managers at Castle Hotel & Spa gathered on Earth Day, April 22, and filled more than 4,000 gallons of trash into 20-gallon bio bags that included disposable bottles, debris, trash, plastic bags and general yard waste from the historic 11-acre property in Tarrytown including the one-mile hiking path and bordering streets of Benedict Avenue and Martling Avenue.

General Manager Gilbert Baeriswil welcomed the 75 employees of Castle Hotel & Spa for the “first annual Earth Day Clear and Clean” and handed out commemorative tee-shirts for the all-day event and shared sponsored coffee and bagels before they set out to clear and clean the property. He thanked them for their participation and commitment to environmental protection.

The efforts were supported by many local vendors who provided food, snacks, coffee, gloves, bio garbage bags, tee-shirts, beverages, and even two volunteers with a wood chipper. The 213 bio garbage bags were carted away by volunteers. Additionally, debris from more than one acre was collected.

Among the Earth Day Clear and Clean Crew were the general manager, chefs, wait staff, maintenance, housekeeping, administrative staff, massage therapists, and even the sommelier. Castle Hotel & Spa has been closed since January for extensive renovations and for the construction of the $10 million THANN Sanctuary Spa. In a sense, said general manager Gilbert Baeriswil, this was a reunion for many of the associates. The property opened on April 30 and the Spa is slated for a mid-June opening.
