Fortune magazine has just released its annual list of the World's Most Admired Companies. You are probably wondering, like I was, whether or not any lodging companies made the list. Only one company made the top 50: Marriott International at No. 37. Within the "Hotels, Casinos, Resorts" category, Marriott is No. 1 followed by Hyatt Hotels, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Wynn Resorts, and Host Hotels & Resorts. These companies are all considered "Most Admired." Considered "Contenders": Wyndham Worldwide, MGM Resorts International, Las Vegas Sands, Accor, and Harrah's Entertainment. Companies on the Most Admired list were evaluated based on criteria in nine categories.
The nine categories include: innovation, people management, use of assets, social responsibility, management quality, financial soundness, long-term investment, product quality, and global competitiveness.
Marriott International finished No. 1 in the following categories in the Hotels, Casinos, Resorts segment: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, quality of products/services, and global competitiveness.
Marriott is a frequent visitor to Fortune's lists as it also appeared on the publication's 100 Best Companies to Work For list at No. 71 (out of 100). On that same list Four Seasons Hotels finished the highest at No. 53. Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants finished at No. 83. Results of Fortune's annual rankings can be found by clicking here.
