WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Beaufurn’s new Fusion table tops showcase the detailed beauty and character of wood such as old-growth timber, graying driftwood and pine. But everything is not as it appears. What lies beneath the surfaces is none other than a photo. “It’s the look of reclaimed wood and inlays at a fraction of the cost,” said Beaufurn president Bill Bongaerts.

Fusion is created from a high-resolution photo fused into the table substrate. The proprietary process immerses the image deeper into the wood than printing a picture overlay. And the effect is more authentic. “It’s a high-end, finely detailed appearance,” said Bongaerts. “The depth and clarity of the image are amazing.”

Once fused, a two-part post conversion finish is applied. Stronger than lacquer, post conversion finishes are harder, more durable and have a higher elasticity to withstand any substrate expansion.

Beaufurn’s Fusion table tops are available on solid Baltic Birch or wood veneer, with additional substrates planned for later this year. Once the solid or veneer base is determined, customers can select the surface from one of seven images: antiqued metal; heart pine; live-edge slabs; aged driftwood planks; geometric marquetry; old-growth, burled timber; and natural pine planks.

Table edges are stained in one of nine standard finishes, from light oak to cherry to solid black. Fusion table tops are available in 10 sizes, starting with a 24-inch round bistro and capping off at a 32-by-48 dining table for six. Customers can also create an exclusive surface by providing their own image. Pictures must have a 300 dpi resolution and be full size, meaning if the table top is 24 inches square, the picture must have the same dimensions.
