CHICAGO—Aparium Hotel Group, a leading hotel company specializing in management and development of independent properties across the United States, announces the appointment of Sean Castady as General Manager for The Charmant Hotel, a boutique and historically relevant hotel in La Crosse, Wis. In his role, Castady will direct and oversee all daily operations of the former chocolate factory turned 67-room hotel, scheduled to open in the Summer of 2015.

“Sean’s past experience with reputable brands and award winning boutique hotels will complement our translocal philosophy perfectly,” said Kevin Robinson, Chief Operating Officer/Managing Partner, Aparium Hotel Group. “More importantly, Sean will naturally fit into the city of La Crosse with his Midwest roots and hospitable personality. As we prepare for the opening of the property local residents will quickly get to know Sean and will appreciate his commitment to extending the authentic and natural culture of La Crosse through The Charmant Hotel and its future team.”

Originally from St. Joseph, Mich., Castady began his hospitality career in Naples, Fla. with Hyatt Hotels. A cross country move landed him at the London West Hollywood prior to joining Joie De Vivre Hospitality in 2009.

Castady is Excited About Transition

“I look forward to returning to the Midwest and establishing new roots with my wife and son,” said Castady. “The Charmant Hotel and its historical significance is an important addition to the community and I am excited for the opportunity to make sure La Crosse is proud of this new addition to the city.”

The Charmant Hotel, located at 101 State Street, in cooperation with award-winning Simeone Deary Design Group and The Kubala Washatko Architects, will be transformed into a culturally relevant and locally inspired hub of activity for visitors and locals, while retaining much of the original character and charm of the former candy factory. Following a more than $23 million renovation and restoration, the property will be the first independent luxury hotel in the area, and will include a restaurant with ample outdoor seating, a lounge and a rooftop bar, as well as functional event space for meetings and corporate gatherings.

“Our goal has always been to create a natural extension of the community,” said Don Weber of Weber Holdings, owner/developer of The Charmant Hotel. “We want to encourage community growth in La Crosse by attracting out-of-towners, creating jobs and offering a new and sophisticated dining option for local residents and have the utmost confidence that Sean is the right person to help execute this vision.”

The hotel will take a sustainable and thoughtful approach to food, sourcing from local farmers and purveyors and producing regional new American cuisine based on classic French technique. Drawing on local ingredients and with its plan to hire and cultivate local talent, both the restaurant and hotel will be built with the Aparium coined mantra of “Translocal Hospitality” in mind. This translates to mean a steadfast commitment to genuine service and authentic experiences. “The Charmant Hotel will be a place where local friends hang out and travelers find a sophisticated but approachable property that is indicative of, and unique to the area—a truly Translocal environment,” said Robinson.
