WASHINGTON, D.C.—The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) annual Summer Summit, held at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz., will offer attendees insight from industry insiders, networking with diverse groups of industry professionals, and the opportunity to shape future AH&LA initiatives via more than a dozen committees. In addition, the annual Stars of the Industry Awards ceremony will honor exemplary employees and programs, and attendees can book a one-on-one eco-appointment with AH&LA’s Green Guru, Pat Maher.

As a precursor to the Summit, AH&LA’s Women in Lodging Connect will host a panel and reception with the newly-formed Arizona chapter. The event on Monday, June 14, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., will feature a cross-section of hotel industry professionals, including David Kong, Best Western president/CEO and AH&LA chair; Leslie Pchola, general manager, Hilton Austin; Michelle Finn, vice president, Hotel Design; Bree Lewis, MHS, manager, strategic marketing—hospitality, HD Supply Facilities Maintenance; and Tiffany Vuk, director, field marketing, Best Western International, and plenty of networking opportunities. Admission is $25 for WIL Connect members and $50 for nonmembers, and advance registration is recommended.

The conference kicks off Tuesday, June 15 with the latest forecasting data via the Lodging Industry Summit, with expert panelists Vail Brown, vice president, global sales and marketing, Smith Travel Research; Patrick Ford, president, Lodging Econometrics; and Doug Shifflet, chairman/CEO, D.K. Shifflet & Associates; and moderator Nancy Johnson, executive vice president/chief executive officer, Carlson Hotels Worldwide, and AH&LA secretary/treasurer.

As part of AH&LA’s ongoing green initiative, attendees can discuss their biggest eco-challenges via a one-on-one strategic session with Pat Maher, AH&LA’s green consultant. The $50 donation supports the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation.

Award Presented for Green Practices

The annual Stars of the Industry Awards luncheon on Wednesday, June 16, honors outstanding lodging employees and properties across the country, as well as Educational Institute award recipients. Annual awards are presented to notable hotel employees, managers, and general managers across the nation, and to hotels for innovative and successful programs in community service, guest relations, special events, diversity, eco-friendly practices, and information technology.

Additionally, many of AH&LA’s more than 30 specialized committees, as well as AH&LA’s board of directors, comprised of top-level hoteliers, management companies, and other representatives from the diverse lodging industry, will host meetings critical in strategically planning industrywide programs and initiatives.

AH&LA Summit partners include American Express, Grainger, HD Supply, Heartland Payment Systems, and US Foodservice.

Registration is $250 for AH&LA members; $450 for nonmembers. Several events are available for purchase a la carte. Attendees can receive the conference rate of $119 (plus taxes) at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Ariz., for bookings made before May 20.
