AUSTIN, TEXAS—Visitors to this year’s Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC) will have an opportunity to learn about some of the industry’s most innovative energy management technologies. Numerous vendors will be on hand to introduce their latest advancements on the trade show floor and GUESTROOM 2010 will also feature green technologies. HITEC will be held June 16 to 19 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.

The following is a summary of some of the technologies that will be featured by vendors at HITEC:

Energy Authority International (EAI) will introduce its Web-based WiSuite guestroom energy management system that uses ZigBee wireless mesh network communication. It combines occupancy sensing controls, digital thermostats and lighting controls into one fully integrated energy management and communication system.

Matthew Mrowczynski, executive vice president, sales and marketing for EAI, says his company’s system can be used to power down heating and cooling to predetermined levels when guests are not in the hotel room. Lighting can also be turned off automatically after the guest exits the room. Once the guest returns, all of the lights that were on originally turn on once again—thanks to a door sensor. The system can integrate with a property management system to provide a centralized view of guestroom activity. Alerts also can be sent to engineers from the system.

Telkonet to Feature NTSE

Telkonet, Inc. will feature its new Networked Telkonet Smart Energy (NTSE) system. It is an intelligent, advanced networked energy management system that provides hotel owners with a green approach to heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) usage to improve in-room energy efficiency. Designed using 802.15.4 wireless mesh technology, it enables central control without the need for expensive back-haul wiring.

NTSE combines the proven features of the original Telkonet Smart Energy system with instant and infinite scalability, matched by low installation costs. It provides property owners with access to detailed data about a property’s HVAC system and its energy consumption, together with real-time remote management facilities. NTSE delivers optimum energy savings without any compromise to occupant comfort, thanks to Telkonet’s unique patented Recovery Time technology.

As it did at the recent HD Expo & Conference in Las Vegas, INNCOM International, Inc. will debut its design-centric e4 Glass Series Smart Digital Thermostat and Switch for luxury hotels. It was developed with the assistance of Tony Chi & Associates. At the core of the e4 Glass Series Smart Digital Thermostat is a Direct Digital Control processor capable of controlling virtually any fan coil unit, heat pump or packaged terminal air conditioner. It includes an easy-to-read illuminated Liquid Crystal Display packaged in an innovative light touch switching form factor.

The e4 Glass Series Smart Digital Thermostat can be expanded to include functionality such as humidity control, outside temperature display, occupancy reporting to housekeeping, automatic control of lights and the patent-pending ecoMODE functionality. When connected to INNCOM’s centrally controlled system, additional energy savings are achieved by using a broader setback band when the guestroom is un-rented.

Mintek’s PM System Enhanced

Mintek Mobile Data Solutions, a leading provider of automated asset management and preventive maintenance (PM) systems, will unveil WinTrack PMnet at HITEC. WinTrack PMnet is a Web-based system that enables hotel owners and operators to manage assets through their entire life-cycle through five important processes: preventive maintenance, asset management, capital expenditure (CAPEX) planning, work orders, and document and contract management.

WinTrack PM, the cornerstone of Mintek’s suite of asset management and preventive maintenance systems, has always been a desktop application. With WinTrack PMnet, however, that has all changed. Engineers responsible for overseeing PM at a property or multiple properties can now update and monitor scheduled PMs, rounds and work orders from any computer with an Internet connection.

Goodman Company, L.P. will feature its Amana DigiSmart system for guestroom PTACs. The system includes an in-room wireless thermostat and occupancy sensor developed in conjunction with Everex Communications. The in-room PTAC and peripherals are connected with the push of a button. There is no wiring to run or need for an electrician. To complete the system, all of the PTACs in a building can be wirelessly connected to a single hardware interface—Tridium Inc.’s Jace controller. On the Jace Internet browser-based software, each PTAC can be viewed from a computer to check unit performance, temperature, unit settings, and maintenance status.

Ways to Control Vending Costs

USA Technologies will be on hand with its VendingMiser, which reduces beverage vending machine electricity use by up to 46 percent and can help existing machines perform to Energy Star specification levels. Other products the company will feature will include the VM2iQ for vending machines, CoolerMiser and CM2iQ for glass-front coolers, SnackMiser for snack machines, and PlugMiser for plug-in equipment.

GUESTROOM 2010, sponsored by IBM, will debut its latest version of the modern hotel room at HITEC. In one place, GUESTROOM 2010 will provide the ultimate guestroom experience enhanced by tomorrow’s technology. In order to design the 2008 model, the GUESTROOM 2010 Task Force searched the globe for new and upcoming technologies for the hotel guestroom. The room features technologies ranging from traditional technologies like electronics, non-traditional technologies like textiles, green technologies like energy-saving devices, and more. In its third year, the exhibit has garnered attention around the world from hospitality and association industry conferences, media and hoteliers.
