TARRYTOWN, N.Y.—The Sheraton Tarrytown and its management company, New Castle Hotels & Resorts, have decided to implement the PURE allergen purification process in 10 percent of the property’s hotel rooms, including one on its club level. The process removes up to 98 percent of bacteria, viruses and other airborne particles from the average hotel room.

Specially trained hotel staff use PURE Solutions purification techniques to comprehensively treat rooms to remove allergens and irritants from all surfaces, fabrics and air flow. Rooms are cleaned before and after each guest, and PURE fully re-sanitizes rooms every 90 days. Guests have welcomed the improvement, happily paying the nominal extra fee to stay in one of the hotel’s 15 PURE rooms, general manager Tony Trusty says.

“The EPA tells us that indoor air quality can be 100 times worse than outdoors,” Trusty says. “And millions of people suffer from allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems that can be made worse by poor air quality. The PURE process noticeably improves the air quality. Guests feel the difference as soon as they enter the room—the air just feels lighter. Our PURE rooms are always occupied.”

Demonstrates Commitment to Wellness

“The PURE process not only enhances the guest experience at Sheraton Tarrytown, its implementation in one of our top-performing properties underscores New Castle’s commitment to addressing environmental and health issues that impact our guests,” says Gerald P. Chase, president and chief operating officer of New Castle Hotels & Resorts, a leading hotel development, ownership and third-party management company based in Shelton, Conn.

“The millions of travelers in the New York City area with allergies now have a safe haven while traveling,” says Brian Brault, CEO of PURE Solutions. “The Sheraton Tarrytown saw the need from their guests with allergies and heightened sensitivities, and they responded. PURE Rooms provide the highest level of indoor air quality and are loved by allergy suffers and non-allergy sufferers alike.”

While the hotel did have to make an initial investment to get the process up and running, Trusty estimates the PURE rooms will repay that investment in two years or less. In addition to interest from the many business travelers who frequent the Sheraton Tarrytown, the PURE rooms have been in high demand with a less-expected clientele—bridal parties.

“We do a lot of high-end social business on the weekends, and brides request the rooms for their bridal parties,” Trusty says. “Apparently, the perception is that if your bridal party spends the night before your big day in a PURE room, you’re less likely to see any red eyes or runny noses.”
