ROANOKE, VA.—The Rodeway Inn located in Castaic, Calif., just five minutes from Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, Calif., has installed GEM System guestroom energy management in all 120 guestrooms, utilizing their existing Amana, Friedrich and GE PTAC units.

GEM System is an innovative, infrared sensor-based guestroom energy management system that reduces guestroom energy costs by 35 percent to 45 percent. GEM System resets the room temperature to an energy conserving level, pre-selected by the hotel, only while the guest is out of the room. GEM System can connect to any brand and model of PTAC and will increase its useful life by 30 percent.

“The financial justification was very simple,” said Marshall Fried, owner/operator of the Rodeway Inn. “I was able to utilize all of my existing PTAC brands and lease the entire system while maintaining a positive cash flow, because the lease payments were lower than the monthly energy savings. “I was impressed with how Lodging Technology worked directly with Southern California Edison to help me qualify for a substantial rebate based on the kilowatt hours saved each year by the hotel.”

“We at Lodging Technology are very pleased with the partnership we have with The Rodeway Inn in Castaic, Calif.,”, stated David Griggs of Griggs Enterprises, Lodging Technology’s Authorized Dealer. “We are ready to assist other Choice Hotel franchisees who are looking for cost effective ways to “go green” and at the same time significantly reduce their energy costs. In this case, we were also able to assist the hotel in qualifying for a significant rebate from Southern California Edison.”
