ST. AUGUSTIN-DE-DESMAURES, QUEBEC—Preverco, a leading manufacturer of high-end, Canadian hardwood flooring, announced that it has established a Green Policy and become FSC certified. Recognizing the importance and responsibility of doing their part to help protect the environment and conserve the Earth’s natural resources, Preverco has set forth guidelines to reduce the company’s environmental impact and ensure that the company’s activities and products are environmentally sound, from the earliest stages of product design through manufacturing, use and recycling.

Although hardwood floors are by definition greener than any other floor covering, the objective of Preverco’s Green Policy is to further attain a high level of environmentally-friendly products, services and corporate activities. Last year, the company invested $10 million in a new, greener manufacturing facility to improve production efficiency. Preverco developed three comprehensive guidelines they will follow to reinforce their commitment to the environment, and these are presented in detail on Preverco’s website.

The first guideline states, “Our efforts are pursued throughout all corporate activities.” Preverco will purchase environmentally-preferred products, as well as goods and services that promote environmental sustainability and have reduced effects on the environment, compared with competing products.

The second guideline states, “Our efforts are pursued throughout the entire product life cycle.” Beginning with the product phase, Preverco will be mindful of the quantity of raw materials, the type of materials and ease of recycling of these materials, as well as the energy consumption required for manufacturing and use. Preverco also encourages environmentally responsible tree harvesting, working with companies that emphasize selective cutting and reforestation. Additionally, Preverco will promote green packaging, as well as energy reduction and greenhouse emission reduction. Of the wood purchased, 99.9 percent is used in one way or another; it is manufactured into hardwood flooring, is burned in kilns or is utilized in various industries.

Lastly, the third guideline states, “We give overall consideration to economic and social implications.” As the future depends on what we do today, Preverco vows to use materials wisely and without waste.
