CODY, WYO.—Cody’s newest hotel, a luxury property called “The Cody,” opened earlier this month. The property is located on the west side of town near the Cody Rodeo Grounds, site of the Cody Nite Rodeo. The Cody is operated by MOA Hospitality of Chicago. Low-impact environmental initiatives are plentiful throughout The Cody, and the hotel is working toward LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Examples of sustainable features include low-VOC paints, guestroom doors made of recycled material, porcelain tile purchased from a LEED-certified manufacturer, reclaimed lumber used for accent trim, cabinets made from quick-growing alder, and mattresses made with latex fill and natural bamboo fiber covers. The building features energy-efficient heating and cooling units and fluorescent energy-saving light bulbs. All appliances are Energy Star certified. The only paper product used in the hotel is biodegradable toilet paper. Bathroom amenities include organic soap, shampoo and conditioner. Breakfast is served on china with glass and silverware while guests may take their to-go coffee in biodegradable cups.

The Cody features 78 rooms with luxury amenities including feather pillows and comforters, terrycloth robes, oversized towels, coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators, flat-screen televisions, irons and ironing boards, hairdryers, free wireless and DSL access and voicemail. The hotel also provides complimentary coffee and continental breakfast with a selection of organic items. Each evening the hotel staff serves complimentary refreshments and coffee to guests in the lobby.

The majority of the rooms feature either two queen beds or a king bed. Many have patios or balconies, and several are handicap accessible. The Cody also features queen and king suites with whirlpool baths and patios. Some suites also have fireplaces and adjoining suites. The Shoshone River Room features meeting space for up to 100 people along with wireless access and support from the hotel’s business center.

Hybrid Vehicle for Transportation

Other services include a GMC hybrid vehicle used for complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport, downtown and popular attractions such as the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.

Also available to guests are automobile rentals, a fitness center, indoor pool and sauna, hot tub spa, newspapers, a gift shop, concierge, business center, library, laundry facilities, DVD players, iPod docking stations, and turndown service.

“The Cody was designed and built with the idea that luxury and sustainability could not only exist together, but they actually enhance the atmosphere of the hotel,” said Janet Gideon, general manager. “To that end, MOA Hospitality worked with contemporary Western designer and author Thea Marx of Cody and Lana Williams of Indianapolis to create a property that pays homage to the region’s natural beauty and history while minimizing its environmental impact.”

The Cody’s lobby and corridors feature reclaimed planking and wood trim from buildings in Yellowstone National Park. Room décor has a decidedly Western flavor with many rooms decorated and named after great figures of the West such as Annie Oakley, Zane Grey, Sacagawea, the Sundance Kid, Gene Autry, and Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.
