NIANTIC, CONN.—At a time when many companies are cutting back on personnel and in other areas in order to save on costs, INNCOM International is in the hiring mode. Niantic-based INNCOM, which develops, manufactures and markets room automation systems for the international lodging industry, has added three experienced professionals to its sales force. John Chaffin is INNCOM’s new director of sales for the Southeast region, Kelly Miller takes over as director of sales for the Western region, and Adam Smalarz is now administrator of project sales and sales programs.

“We understand that in these tough economic times, hotels have to do everything they can to save on costs, and saving on energy costs is a key strategy toward that end,” said John Tavares, INNCOM’s vice president of sales and marketing. “Bringing aboard these three veteran salespeople is an indication of our intent to do all we can to ensure that our clients get the best products and services available to help them meet their business goals. We believe that looking to the future is crucial, because even when the economy returns to vibrancy, saving on energy costs will be a key to business success in the hotel industry—and we will have an expanded sales force in place to meet the industry’s needs for quality, energy-saving EMS products.”

A 22-year industry veteran, Chaffin comes to INNCOM after 12 years with ASSA ABLOY Hospitality Inc., where he served as Southeast regional sales manager. Prior to that, Chaffin held sales-executive positions with AT&T Corp., GE Capital ResCom and Visual Edge Systems Inc. Chaffin, who will be based in Palm Beach, Fla., said his goals in his new position are to focus on helping hotels improve guest satisfaction by offering comprehensive products and services.

Attracted to Innovation

“Being in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years, I’ve always known INNCOM as innovative in their product offering and extremely professional in their approach to customer satisfaction—simply put, INNCOM’s products and people are a step above the rest,” Chaffin said. “The future in hospitality is vigilance on managing energy consumption while enhancing the guest experience, increasing staff productivity and being proactive in monitoring the facility. I’m excited to be with INNCOM, and I look forward to partnering with my clients in applying eco-friendly practices to their ever changing business goals.”

Miller, who will be based in Los Angeles, most recently served as Western region sales manager for MIWA Lock Co. Prior to that, Miller served as Western region sales executive for Bartech Systems International, Millersville, Md.

“I’ve always been impressed with the success of INNCOM solutions, their relevance and their applications in the hotel market as hoteliers focus on bottom-line cost savings, enhanced guest service and increased productivity in operations,” Miller said. “My role as Western region sales director will be to successfully market and sell INNCOM’s integrated room-automation systems. At the same time, I believe I’ll be making a personal contribution toward global environmental sustainability as part of the close-knit INNCOM team.”

Inside Sales Support

Smalarz, the newest addition to INNCOM’s “INNside” sales team, will be responsible for assisting the outside sales force by calling on hotel owners and introducing them to INNCOM as well as preparing materials for presentations and preparing reports to aid in the sales process. He will be based at INNCOM world headquarters in Niantic.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join a fantastic company with a global presence and award-winning technical innovations, and it’s a great pleasure to be part of a winning team,” Smalarz said. “My goals are to maintain relationships with current INNCOM customers and to create new customers who will benefit from our wide range of products and services.”

Most recently, Smalarz worked as a sales executive for Cintas Corp. in Branford, Conn. He is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University.

INNCOM’s product line ranges from programmable digital thermostats to fully integrated energy management, lighting control and communication systems—all designed to enhance guest comfort, safety and satisfaction while increasing bottom-line profits and being environmentally friendly.
