SHEFFIELD, MASS.—Cypress Hotel & Spa, a leading designer and manufacturer of luxury bathrobes, towels, slippers, and sheets for the hospitality and spa industry for more than 25 years, introduced its exclusive new MicroCotton Green EarthTM towels to the spa market during the 2008 ISPA Conference & Expo. The conference was held earlier this month in Las Vegas.

The MicroCotton Green Earth towel is engineered to maximize absorbency, durability and eco-conservation. They are made from super-fine, Extra-Long Staple (ELS) cotton; a variety of cotton known for its sustainable consumption and also recognized worldwide for its superior softness. Green Earth towels are 160 percent bulkier than traditional combed cotton towels of the same weight, with significantly less mass than traditional combed towels. Due to the higher ratio of surface area to towel weight they absorb more water, and due to their lower mass they cost significantly less to launder. These features result in a savings of up to 30 percent in water consumption, less detergent use and 10 to 20 percent less drying time, reducing both operational costs and environmental impact.

“In today’s eco-economy, it is critical for hotels and spas to reduce energy usage and expenditures,” said Gene Faul, Cypress founder and CEO. “However, many have been reluctant to implement the use of ‘green’ or organic linens because they are typically not as soft, durable or luxurious as traditional ones. Our new Green Earth towels offer superior absorbency and softness, while providing very significant savings in the laundering process. No other company or product in the hospitality market has been able to reach this ideal balance of economy and luxury.”

Eco-friendly Manufacturing

Green Earth towels are manufactured in a state-of-the-art, agri-waste powered, zero-discharge facility that produces no emission of effluents into the local water tables. The process also incorporates Control Union-certified, sustainable, eco-friendly dyes and chemicals to reduce impact on the environment, and towels are shipped in 100 percent natural and biodegradable/recyclable packaging.

In addition to the complete line of Green Earth bath towels, Cypress has recently developed a clay-colored Green Earth spa treatment towel, especially for the spa market. This was based on feedback from existing Cypress spa clients, who expressed a need for a darker towel for use in spa treatments involving mud, clay or oils that tend to stain white towels.

Due to positive feedback from existing and prospective clients around the world, Cypress is also planning to expand the Green Earth line to include eco-friendly bathrobes and linens.
