ROANOKE, VA.—The Comfort Inn, Butte Montana, which is managed by Town Pump, Inc., has installed Lodging Technology’s GEM System Energy Management in all 145 guestrooms. GEM System, an infrared sensor-based guestroom energy management system, reduces room energy costs 35 percent to 45 percent by maintaining “management-preferred” temperatures in rooms while guests are out. By taking this responsible step to become more energy efficient, NorthWestern Energy has given the Comfort Inn a very substantial rebate.

The Comfort Inn has a mixture of GE and LG through-the-wall PTAC units, ranging in age from two to 20-plus years. Since GEM System is compatible with any PTAC unit of any age, the system was easily installed in every guestroom plus one sales office and one managers’ office.

“We are very excited to partner with Lodging Technology,” said Bill McGladdery, director of hotel operations at Town Pump, Inc. “Given Lodging Technology’s tenure in the energy management business, and their ability to connect to all of our PTAC units, we knew we were making the right decision.”

“By installing GEM System, the Comfort Inn Butte will save many thousands of dollars otherwise spent on wasted energy use,” said Jon Griffin, technical sales manager at Lodging Technology. “And with such a large rebate from NorthWestern Energy, the payback on GEM System will be even quicker than the normal 1.5 to two years. I am very excited about the Comfort Inn project and look forward to installing GEM System in additional Town Pump, Inc. managed properties in the near future.”
