ROANOKE, VA.—The brand new Clarion Inn, Pigeon Forge (Tenn.) has installed Lodging Technology’s GEM System Energy Management, GEM Stat Digital Thermostats, and Guest-In-Room Detector in all (94) guestrooms. The system is connected to the property’s General Electric vertical PTAC units in the guestrooms, and is using a switch on the balcony/patio doors to prevent wasteful cooling and heating if the doors are left open.

The GEM System reduces hotel/motel guestroom HVAC energy consumption 35 percent to 45 percent by resetting room temperature to an energy conserving level, preselected by the hotel, only while the guest is out of the room. The GEM Stat is a digital wall thermostat that provides uniform temperature control, preventing the guest from setting extreme temperatures. The Guest-In-Room Detector allows staff members to know from the hallway if a room is actually occupied, without knocking and disturbing guests, virtually eliminating embarrassing intrusions while guests are asleep, dressing, or showering.

“We installed GEM System in our other property, a Best Western, five years ago, so I knew as soon as we started building the Clarion Inn that we would include it in this property too,” said Pramod Patel, owner of the Clarion Inn Pigeon Forge. “The energy dollars saved is just like increasing our average daily rate. And guests see us as an eco-friendly hotel, which is also an advantage.”

“We are excited to announce the installation of Mr. Patel’s new Clarion Inn,” said Jon Griffin, technical sales manager at Lodging Technology. “We take great pride in our quality products and unparalleled customer service, which is evidenced by the installation of Mr. Patel’s second property. We have an extensive list of repeat customers for whom we’ve installed as few as two to as many as 32 properties.”
